On that day, the women present at the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) were approached to be informed regarding screening for cervical cancer. The speakers, Catherine Collovald (in charge of prevention at the CPAM) and Manal Denidni (clinical research associate at the CRDCS 54) thus met women aged 25 to 65 to raise their awareness of this cancer which affects 3 000 new people, causes 1,100 deaths. Screening can prevent 90% of cases.
“For us, it is essential to go to the insured to raise their awareness, reassure them, then redirect them to hospitals or the Lunéville sexual health service”, explains Catherine Collovald. As a reminder, cervical cancer is caused by HPV viruses , sexually transmitted. Screening is done by taking a smear from the cervix.
An “organized screening” set up
Since 1is January 2022, organized screening for cervical cancer is set up: a letter will be sent to women aged 25 to 65 to encourage them to get screened. “This allows better information, which will lead to more screenings. It should also be noted that gynecologists are not the only ones who can perform the act, midwives and trained general practitioners are authorized” explains Manal Denidni.
In Meurthe-et-Moselle, more than 180,000 women are involved in the screening program.
Next operation on March 22 for colorectal cancer screening as part of the “Mars Bleu” month.
