Rabat – The strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary field was on the menu of talks, Saturday in Rabat, between the speaker of the House of Councillors, Naama Mayara, and the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (UPA), Mohamed Ali Houmed.
During this meeting, the two parties discussed the work of the 11th Conference of the Association of Senates, Shura Councils and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) and the Senate Parliamentary Dialogue Forum and equivalent councils from Africa, the Arab world, Latin America and the Caribbean, the House of Councilors said in a statement.
In this regard, Mr. Ali Houmed congratulated Mr. Mayara for the success of this event which resulted in the proclamation of Rabat as the capital of South-South Cooperation, added the same source.
After discussing bilateral relations and the need to develop them in all areas of common interest, the two parties reviewed ways to advance bilateral cooperation between the House of Councilors and the National Assembly of Djibouti and to make it an accompanying mechanism to encourage the two governments to strengthen economic cooperation and promote trade and other aspects of bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders also advocated permanent consultation on bilateral, regional and international issues at the level of the parliamentary bodies of which they are members, in particular within the UPA, which now plays a major role in bringing the peoples of African continent, who aspire to greater progress, prosperity and peace.
In this context, Mr. Mayara suggested the development of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the two institutions to serve as a support framework for parliamentary and legislative cooperation, laying the foundations for a close partnership in the field parliamentary diplomacy and the exchange of experiences and expertise in the field of parliamentary action.
For his part, Mr. Ali Houmed shared Mr. Mayara’s vision of possible approaches to advancing bilateral relations, expressing his full belief that realizing the aspirations of the two peoples for advanced cooperation is only possible through accelerating the pace of exchange of experiences and good parliamentary practices.
The two parties affirmed to continue to work for the strengthening and consolidation of existing parliamentary cooperation relations and to intensify coordination and consultation between the parliaments of the two countries in various regional and international parliamentary forums on issues of common interest.
