The mobile operator MTN is setting up a “immediate response to this need”. An allusion made to the war in Ukraine which will soon be a week. The exemption of communication costs is a means that is made available to customers. This is in order to allow them to stay in touch with their relatives stranded in Ukraine.
MTN Côte d’Ivoire intends to work with the GSMA Groupe Spécial Mobile to achieve this. The GSMA is an international association representing the interests of more than 750 mobile phone operators and manufacturers from 220 countries around the world.
MTN Côte d’Ivoire has a total of 13.9 million subscribers in the 3rd quarter of 2021 and a turnover of 80 billion CFA francs (excluding taxes) in the mobile telephony market, an increase of more than 14, 5% vs. 2020, driven by a 154% national penetration rate. Its international voice traffic is estimated at 21.1 million minutes during the aforementioned period.
