Lhe hope for a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, announced last Thursday and reached by the Ukrainian and Russian delegations, was short-lived.

This included the creation of a humanitarian corridor to extricate thousands of Ukrainians trapped by the war.

Russia continued to attack residential buildings in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, and also intensified its offensive in Kherson and Mariupol.

In the midst of these attacks, thousands try to leave the country, but mainly men face difficulties in doing so.

Yesterday, at Lviv station, where evacuation trains leave for Poland, Ukrainians between the ages of 18 and 60 were prevented from boarding, because they are of an age to be enlisted for combat.

The scene was repeated on a train headed for Slovakia and was saturated with the arrival of thousands of people.

In that city, the public lighting service was cut yesterday in order not to facilitate a possible bombing.

On Thursday, the interior ministers of the European Union signed an agreement to automatically grant displaced Ukrainian nationals temporary protection that allows them to travel freely within the European Union, settle in any of its member states, seek employment and have access to medical care.

Historic agreement at the meeting of interior ministers: The European Union will grant temporary protection to those fleeing the war in Ukraine. The EU is united and in solidarity”, announced the French Minister of the Interior and rotating presidency of the EU, Gérald Darmanin.

According to United Nations projections, more than ten million people may flee their homes in Ukraine as a result of the war, of which four million would seek refuge in neighboring countries.

So far, more than a million refugees have already left Ukraine, of whom more than half a million are children.
