“Transportation companies operate a bit like airlines, so if there is a drastic increase in the price of gasoline, the bill is passed on to the people who have signed contracts with us, so ultimately it is always the consumer who will pay,” said André Ducharme, spokesperson and safety director at Trans-West.
This increase might fuel inflation, which has affected almost all sectors for the past year.
“It’s a bit of an inflationary spiral. We pass the bill on to the suppliers who pass it on to the consumers, the consumer, what does it do? He’s going to see his boss for a raise. A salary increase means additional costs for companies,” he explains.
However, the transport companies had already raised their prices in the last year with an increase in the price of gasoline.
“The costs have increased enormously in the last year. This increase of regarding 25% can represent regarding $1500 more for a trip. We then divide that by the number of pallets and the bill is passed on to consumers,” he says.
