The Ivorian Electricity Company (CIE) and the Water Distribution Company of Côte d’Ivoire (SODECI) expressed their sympathy for the victims of the collapse of a building under construction in Treichville, near their headquarters , in the south of the Ivorian economic capital. On the night of Saturday February 26 to Sunday February 27, 2022, a building under construction in Treichville collapsed on homes, killing several people. These are 7 dead, 22 injured and more than 100 people displaced.

Affected by this tragedy, the companies CIE and SODECI mobilized, yesterday Thursday, to provide their support and assistance to the affected populations, report the two companies in a note sent to APA this Friday.

The Managing Director of the CIE and SODECI Group, Ahmadou Bakayoko, accompanied by his collaborators, expressed his compassion through a donation of food and non-food items worth 5,000,000 CFA francs.

This donation is notably composed of an envelope of 1,000,000 CFA francs to support the town hall in the initiatives taken since February 27, 2022 and basic necessities for a total amount of 4,000,000 CFA francs. Cardboard boxes of oil, milk, sugar, soap, bags of rice, mattresses, gas cylinders… among other things, make up these basic necessities.

In addition to these donations, the Director General recalled the availability of his teams to assist disaster victims. To this end, immediately following the tragedy, teams from SODECI and CIE were on the ground to take the necessary security measures for both water and electricity, the networks of which had been destroyed by the collapse.

With regard to water, the work to repair leaks and recover damaged connections enabled the network to be partially put back into service. Pending a return to normal, since Wednesday March 2, 2022, a tank truck has been made available to affected families to supply them with drinking water.

For electricity, the services of the CIE carried out the removal of all the metering boards identified on the destroyed site or the sites at risk. The resumption of the power supply on March 2, 2022 of four courtyards which had been isolated following the disaster and the installation of two additional fireplaces around the site to reinforce the lighting of the area are also to the credit of the CIE.

According to the two companies, these actions are part of public service missions, social responsibilities and commitment to the well-being of populations. General Manager Ahmadou Bakayoko, reaffirming the support of these two companies for the town of Treichville with which they have multifaceted and constructive relations, justified this mobilization of his employees by the value of solidarity also conveyed by the town of N’Zassa ( cosmopolitics) of Treichville.

Following Mr. Bakayoko, the mayor of Treichville, François Amichia, on behalf of the City Council, the populations affected, the families of the victims, expressed his gratitude and his admiration for this gesture of high social significance. “We are not surprised by your trip and the gesture you make today because we know your generosity and your societal policy in favor of the populations and more especially in favor of the populations of Treichville who go beyond solidarity and good neighborhood,” he explained.

Continuing, he said: “We are happy that it is you as private companies who first give this signal of solidarity. I would like to reassure you, Mr Director General, that good use will be made of everything you have offered us”.
