The permanent representative of Venezuela to the UN, Héctor Constant Rosales, said Thursday that the country regretted, during the session held yesterday on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the “breaking” of the Minsk agreements by the Treaty Organization of the North Atlantic (NATO).
“In the urgent debate of the United Nations on Ukraine, we regret the violation of the Minsk Agreements by NATO,” the official wrote in his Twitter account. Twitter.
The so-called Minsk Protocol, signed by Russia and Ukraine, had the objective of ending the war in the cities of Donetsk and Lugansk, in eastern Ukraine.
Rosales also reported that, in the session, Venezuela condemned the unilateral coercive measures that have been taken, mainly, by the United States and the European Union once morest Russia following its invasion of Ukraine eight days ago.
Likewise, the official added that they called for “the cessation of war propaganda and the discourse of intolerance” and reiterated the “path of dialogue and diplomacy to guarantee human rights and peace.”
With an overwhelming majority, the UN General Assembly on Wednesday approved a resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine and demanded that Russia immediately and unconditionally withdraw its troops.
Of the 193 member states of the United Nations, 141 supported the text, while only five voted once morest it: Russia itself, Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea.
Venezuela abstained from voting.
