The Mac mini is known for having the power of a Mac computer in a small and affordable device, but what if this might be even smaller?
A youtuber has been able to document the process he has carried out to create a new version of the Mac mini M1 even more compactadding support for MagSafe and presenting it to its followers in the face of an imminent and very close launch of 7 new Apple Macs including a new Mac mini.
“A Mac mini more mini”
In 2020, the new and refurbished Mac mini M1 began to be sold that kept the same design which has been around since 2010, but with the implementation of one of Apple’s new chips. When dismantled, it was discovered that the device has a large available space that is not used, but it is not necessary either, since the components with which the M1 chip works are smaller.
Now, Quinn Nelson has shown on his channel Snazzy Labs your idea of saving this free space by offering a smaller Mac mini M1.
The youtuber managed to reduce the computer up to 78% thanks to a relocation of some of the components, replaced the 150W power supply with an external 65W Microsoft Surface Power Supply connected via MagSafe 2 and a DC voltage regulator that leads to the Mac mini’s logic board .
All this was adapted to a new resin case with the design of the Mac Pro 2019 for better ventilation, as Nelson removed the fan from the Mac mini. Despite this, the behavior and performance of the computer has fully complied.
Within his analysis he mentions that his Mac mini M1 has passed Benchmark tests satisfactorily and that actually no compromise on computer performance compared to the original Apple version.
Nelson has made available to his followers the guide to downsize the Mac mini M1 on your own there is one a Scott Yu-Jan, a youtuber who has just created a portable Mac mini as revolutionary creatives of the Apple devices that have offered cool ideas that Apple might well take into account for future projects.
