The driver of a De Lijn company bus was arrested following driving while intoxicated, media in the north of the country announced. It was passengers who alerted the police following seeing that the driver was deviating from the trajectory, not stopping at stops and not stopping at red lights.
“I’ve been on the same bus for eight years, I’ve never experienced this,” said Laurens, a young traveler, who shared the footage. “I immediately noticed that something was wrong. At the first stop, the driver did not stop. He missed others. And when he stopped, he mightn’t open the doors because he was using the wrong button”.

Finally, the police stopped the bus and gave the driver a breather. He was definitely positive. A new driver, cleaner, arrived to take his service. “Today, I can laugh regarding it, but the consequences might have been dramatic”.
At De Lijn, we take this matter very seriously: “Passenger safety must be our priority”. An internal investigation is opened.
