From March 1, 2022, it is now possible for any eligible person invited to organized colorectal cancer screening to receive a free screening test at home. This new process, part of the ten-year strategy (2021-2030) to fight cancer, complements the other systems in place to make colorectal screening more accessible.
Detecting colorectal cancer is easy thanks to the immunological test. This stool-hidden blood test is quick and effective. The test is to be done at home, then sent free of charge to the laboratory for analysis.
It is aimed at women and men, aged 50 to 74, who receive an invitation every 2 years to discuss colorectal cancer screening with their doctor. The latter verifies whether his patient has no particular risk requiring appropriate follow-up, then gives him the screening test.
The possibility of receiving the test at home completes this possibility of delivery by the attending physician. With the invitation received, it will thus be possible from March 1 to identify yourself online on the Health Insurance website: monkit.depistage-colorectal.frto answer a few questions, and, in the absence of any particular risk, to order the test to receive it at home.
This simple gesture can save lives! If blood is found in the stool during the screening test, a colonoscopy is done. It makes it possible to diagnose colorectal cancer at an early stage, or even to avoid cancer by highlighting polyps or adenomas, before they degenerate into cancerous lesions. They will be removed during the colonoscopy.
With approximately 43,000 new cases per year, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in France. This cancer often develops initially without symptoms or noticeable signs. Its detection is particularly important: the earlier it is detected, the less heavy the treatments and the greater the chances of recovery. Detected early, colorectal cancer is cured in 9 out of 10 cases.
This possibility of receiving the test at home is included in the ten-year strategy for the fight once morest cancer 2021-2030.
Facilitating access to cancer screening is more than ever a major public health issue that requires the mobilization of all.
