The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday that it had opened an investigation following a police officer killed himself with the service weapon of a colleague in the police station of the Geel-Laakdal-Meerhout police zone.

According to the prosecution, the 32-year-old police officer had disappeared on Monday evening. He was found Tuesday morning at his parents’ house and was taken to the police station, where the tragedy occurred.

The prosecution appointed an investigating judge to establish the exact circumstances of the event. Given the nature of the facts, it is not the police but Committee P that will lead the investigation.
