Only one scenario (unlikely) can prevent the Union from being in playoffs 1

If KV Mechelen’s draw once morest Cercle did not officially qualify Mazzù’s men for the top 4, it would take a big disaster not to see them in the fight for the title.

The deal was simple this weekend: the Union, even with their draw once morest Eupen, might validate their ticket to the top 4 if Mechelen lost once morest Cercle Brugge. However, this match also gave birth to a draw (2-2) which does not yet count the ticket of the unionists.

However, there is only one team, only one scenario not to see them at the title race party in a few weeks. First of all, only Mechelen can still eject them from the top 4 (because La Gantoise doesn’t have enough wins for that).

But let’s take things the right way. First, and most importantly, Union will only miss the top 4 if they lose the last 5 games of the regular season. The opponents ? Kortrijk, OHL, Ostend, Standard and Beerschot.

Then, KV Mechelen will imperatively have to win their last 6 games to play, once morest OHL, STVV, Charleroi, Eupen, Kortrijk and Club Brugge. But that’s not all. Not content with winning all these matches, Mechelen will also have to score goals… a lot of goals.

In the event of a tie in the standings (which would be the case with this scenario), the number of wins takes precedence (both teams would then have 20) then the goal difference. There for once, the Union is at + 40 and Mechelen at +2. Cuypers, Storm and the other artificers will therefore have to give it their all.

As you will have understood, it will not be easy to get the Union out of the top 4, even if there is still a tiny possibility.
