With 279 points, the Kia EV6 replaces the Toyota Yaris, winner last year, and is ahead of the Renault Megane E-Tech (265 points) and the Hyundai Ioniq (261 points).
A great first for Kia. Its EV6 crossover was designated “Car of the Year” 2022 on February 28, on the occasion of the eleventh edition of this Prize, which took place in Geneva. The all-electric crossover was chosen by a jury of 61 automotive journalists from 23 countries. The Korean crossover was initially listed for the top prize alongside more than 60 models launching in 2021. Last November, the COTY jury narrowed down that long list to 7 vehicles, 6 of which are electric. A size indicator that demonstrates the growing importance of electric vehicles for consumers as society moves towards a new future of mobility.
With 279 points, the Kia EV6 edged out the Renault Megane E-Tech (265 points) and the Hyundai Ioniq (261 points). The only model that wasn’t 100% electric among the seven finalists was the Peugeot 308, which took fourth place with 191 points. The Skoda Enyaq finished fifth with 185 points, followed by the Cupra Born (144 points).
“It is a great honor to win the 2022 Car of the Year award with the EV6, the very first to achieve this title. The EV6 has benefited from ground-breaking development and was designed from the ground up to make e-mobility fun, convenient and accessible by combining a very impressive range in real-world conditions, super-fast charging capabilities, a spacious interior and high -tech and a rewarding driving experience,” said Jason Jeong, President of Kia Europe.
The Korean crossover also won Irish Car of the Year 2022, Crossover of the Year 2021, German Car 2022 Premium Winner and Best Cars of the Year 2021/2022 Awards.
As a reminder, the previous year’s prize was won by the Toyota Yaris, a city car that offers a hybrid engine.
