Crans-Montana/Graz – During yesterday’s women’s World Cup downhill run in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, the Austrian Cornelia Hütter suffered a serious fall shortly before the finish line on her way to a possible podium finish. It looks like the Styrian speed specialist had luck in her misfortune. Although she suffered a concussion, her knee, which had been bruised so often, remained unharmed. Nevertheless, she stayed in the hospital in Graz from Sunday to Monday night.
Already on Sunday evening Dr. Mandl a slight all-clear. This time the knee was not affected. Anyone who reads the 29-year-old’s long medical file knows that another knee injury might have meant the end of her career. The doctor also said that her left knee is stable and has withstood the strain.
The right knee needs to be checked once more. A medial ligament injury is possible, but wouldn’t be as dramatic. Cornelia Hütter, who had celebrated three podium places in the World Cup before her fall on Sunday in the canton of Valais, was more likely to get away with it.
Dangerous racing situation for Julia Pleshkova
In addition to Cornelia Hütter, the US lady Keely Cashman also fell on Sunday’s descent in Crans-Montana. The 22-year-old, who spent regarding a minute on the Mont Lachaux route, tried to save herself, but in vain. She landed hard on the runway. It takes quite a while for the marshals to rush over and help her.
Meanwhile, the Russian Julia Pleshkova is on the road. The 24-year-old is by no means stopped. She races past Cashman and the snow groomers at breakneck speed. This annoys many people. The members of the Sbornaja have luck in their misfortune. It might have ended badly if she might have fallen in the same place as her opponent, who is two years younger than her.
After all: When Pleshkova crosses the finish line, Cashman gets up by himself. Thank God she doesn’t seem to have hurt herself too badly either.
