The Ogooué Mining Company (COMILOG), a subsidiary of the French metallurgical group Eramet, indicates in a press release published on Monday that it produced seven million tonnes of manganese in 2021, a new record reached in terms of production.
According to the document published by COMILOG, its manganese production in 2021 experienced a record increase compared to that of 2020 (5.8 million), an increase of 21%.
Regarding the sales volume, the company experienced a slight increase to 6.6 million tonnes in 2021 once morest 6 million tonnes in 2020, an increase of 10%. Thus, the turnover of the mining company amounts to 581 billion FCFA once morest 551 billion FCFA in 2020.
Gabon is the world’s second largest producer of high-grade manganese ore (45 to 50%), behind South Africa. The country aims to be the world leader, with production expected to reach around 12 million tonnes in the years to come.
