Kyiv-born Russian star Milla Jovovich finally speaks out: ‘I’m torn in two’

After actress Macha Meril -from a family of Russian aristocrats who lived in Ukraine- or Miss Ukraine once more, Milla Jovovich’s turn to share her dismay on Instagram. The 46-year-old actress, star of the films The Fifth Element or even Joan of Arc by Luc Besson, speaks, torn by her dual origins. “I am heartbroken and stunned by the events of this week in my native Ukraine, writes the ex-wife of Luc Besson on Instagram. My country and my people are bombed. Friends and family members are hiding. My blood and my roots come from both Russia and Ukraine. I am torn in two as I watch the horror unfold, the country destroyed, the families displaced, their entire lives lying in charred fragments around them.”

“And always, the people pay the price with blood and tears”

The mother of Ever, Dashiel and Osian, before launching a call for help (via a link to raise funds) to her country, then concludes with sadness. “I remember the war in my father’s homeland, the former Yugoslavia, and the stories my family tells of the trauma and terror they experienced. The war. Always war. Leaders who cannot bring peace. The endless steamroller of imperialism. And always, the people pay the price with blood and tears.”
