“Informal” meeting with Jean Charest on Wednesday

Members of the Conservative caucus are invited to an “informal” meeting with Jean Charest on Wednesday evening to discuss his potential candidacy for the leadership of the party.

Several members of the party are asking the former premier of Quebec to stand as a candidate to succeed Erin Toole at the head of the Conservative Party of Canada (PCC). An appeal, signed by four deputies and a senator, was launched last Tuesday.

Yesterday, Gérard Deltell gave his support to Jean Charest. The Conservative MP for Louis-Saint-Laurent believes that the former premier of Quebec is the best person to beat Justin Trudeau in the next election.

So far, only MP Pierre Poilievre has confirmed that he is entering the race.

Political columnist Tasha Kheiriddin is seriously considering running for office.

The mayor of Brampton and former leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, Patrick Brown, was also contacted.
