Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday urged the European Union to integrate “without delay“his country which has been fighting a Russian invasion for five days.
“We turn to the EU regarding an immediate integration of Ukraine via a new special procedure“, said Mr. Zelensky in a video address.I’m sure that’s right. I’m sure it’s possible“.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has come out in favor of Ukraine joining the European Union. “They are one of us and we want them among us“, she told a Euronews reporter on Sunday.
Ukraine has been working on joining the European Union for some time now. This objective has also been enshrined in the constitution since 2019.
