A video of a Russian soldier captured by Ukrainian government forces has been released.
On the 27th (local time), the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine posted a video of a Russian prisoner of war captured by government forces through social networking services (SNS) such as Twitter and Facebook.
In the video, the Russian prisoner of war answered, “a driver born in Irkutsk, born in 2002” when asked regarding his year of birth and place of residence.
“We didn’t know this was Ukraine. We thought it was military training,” he said. “I didn’t know regarding the invasion of Ukraine. I was deceived by Putin.”
In another video, soldiers with both arms tied while wearing Russian military uniforms said, “I knew and participated in military training” and “I didn’t know it was Ukrainian territory.”
A video was also uploaded of a young Russian soldier surrounded by Ukrainian citizens crying while talking on the phone with his parents following being handed a cell phone from a citizen.
Foreign media such as CNN reported that the families of Russian soldiers were also not aware that they had invaded Ukraine, causing controversy.
It also said that some of the Russian soldiers involved in the invasion were poorly trained and unequipped.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s health minister said that 352 civilians, including 14 children, were killed and 1,684 were injured, including 116 children.
