Should Hans Vanaken be sent off for his little slap on Frey?

Hans Vanaken was voted “man of the match” by our editorial staff, but for the same price he might have picked up a red card.

We are at the start of the second quarter of an hour of the first half of the match between Club Brugge and Antwerp. In a duel, Frey and Vanaken push, pull, repel and a slap goes, towards the left cheek of the Swiss striker.

If Mr Visser called a foul for this gesture, he did not send off the captain of Club Brugge. Is this a good decision? In absolute terms, at this point in the match and given the intensity of the gesture, the decision can be understood, even if a yellow card would have also been a good decision.

But … we know, this kind of gesture is subject to the discretion of the referee and with some men in black (and others in the VAR), the red might have been brandished. This decision has sparked a debate on social media. Everyone will have their own opinion.
