Canadian victory: a festive atmosphere

While Martin St-Louis was addressing the journalists following his team’s victory, the music resonated to the point where he had to strain his ears more than usual to hear the questions properly. A scene unimaginable just a few weeks ago…

The gloom of the last few months seems to have become a relic of a distant past as the climate has changed. Five wins in a row obviously help to regain the lost pleasure.

“We came to work. All the guys played their game and did their job. It’s fun to see. We hear it with the music. It’s a great atmosphere and that’s what it feels like to win. I’m happy for them, ”launched the pilot.

St. Louis looked particularly happy for Artturi Lehkonen, who scored the brace. The Finn obviously has a lucky hand once morest the Senators.

The tally now shows eight goals once morest this team, more than once morest any other club. Of his nine two-goal games in the NHL, three have come once morest Ottawa.

“He’s a guy who plays the right way. He takes care of the team, I keep saying that. Defensively, he’s an excellent hockey player and offensively, he sees the game,” praised St-Louis.

“It’s fun to see players like him being rewarded with goals. It gives them confidence. A player like Lehkonen will never try to cheat on offense without taking care of his defense. We have a lot of players like that and Lehkonen is a leader in that department,” he continued.

Happy for Hammond

The head coach also did not hide his joy over his goalkeeper Andrew Hammond. It was an emotional night at work for the “Hamburglar,” who had some memorable moments with the Senators in his 2014-15 debut.

“He deserved to play this game and the way he played, it’s extraordinary. I’m happy because in the first period, he had long shots that allowed him to have a good feeling for the puck.

“He then made the key saves when we needed them and when it’s the same, it calms the team and it allows us to continue to believe in what we are doing. You always feel in control of the game. That’s how I felt, even though it was 2-1 and we mightn’t increase the lead,” explained St-Louis.

Flowers for Dolphin

The boss also had good words for Laurent Dauphin, who showed great intensity.

“The video doesn’t lie. When I watch the games following the fact, you see it clearly in the video. He plays on 200 feet. Dauphin needs a little bit of luck (to score) because he works very hard both ways of the rink,” he noted.
