La Louvière: a driver hits two young girls without even braking

Late last night, a driver drove up rue Sylvain Guyaux in the center of La Louvière. On his way, the man hit a group of pedestrians present at the exit of the Flanagan’s pub, reported our colleagues from Sudpresse.

The facts occurred at 2:59 am precisely. The time at which, following municipal rules, the cafes had just closed. Customers were then on the sidewalk chatting when a driver seems to have run into them. A young man narrowly pulls a friend towards him to save her from being knocked down. Another person jumps to the side to avoid the vehicle. Unfortunately, a young girl is thrown on the sidewalk and another is hit. Given the situation, these young women are miracles.

Present in his bar during the incident, Mehdi Mrakha, the owner of Flanagan’s, hastened to call for help. The latter having already been informed, the owner of the pub went out into the street in search of potential witnesses. In order to help the police, the cafe owner also provided the recordings of the surveillance cameras located on the facade of his pub. We then see in the images a vehicle driving at high speed on the lane reserved for public transport and hitting pedestrians.

Despite the seriousness of the facts, the car continued on its way. The driver returned home and therefore committed a hit-and-run. Finally, it was found thanks to its plate number and the images of the surveillance videos. According to these images, the driver was driving at an unsuitable speed and did not appear to have braked. The driver might have been surprised but the place is however brightly lit. From now on, the perpetrator must be heard by the investigating judge in charge of the case.
