A widespread cut left tonight without electricity to the districts of General Pueyrredón, General Alvarado, Mar Chiquita, de la Costa, Villa Gesell and Pinamar on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires, in the midst of an alert issued by the Meteorological Service for intense storms with electrical activity in the area.

The energy distribution company EDEAwhich provides service in 17 locations in Buenos Aires, reported on its official Twitter account that the cut “was generated by a failure in Transba”, concessionaire of the electric transport service in Buenos Aires, and that this affected its distribution system.

“We are working in coordination with the transportation company to carry out the necessary maneuvers to restore service as quickly as possible,” EDEA added in its post.

Likewise, following 8:30 p.m., he reported that “they meet the normalized service: Ayacucho, Rauch, Sierra de los Padres, zone-west-port and center of Mar del Plata.”

Civil Defense of Mar del Plata had informed hours before that “The company EDEA has registered a black out that affects part of the province of Buenos Aires and the district of General Pueyrredón in its entirety.”

The service also returned in towns such as Las Toninas or Santa Teresita, in the Partido de la Costa, gradually.

The power outage occurred within the framework of a massive influx of tourists to the cities of the Atlantic coast on the eve of the long weekend for the carnival celebrations, where Mar del Plata registered an occupation of 90% of its hotel beds.

“We ask neighbors and tourists to stay safe since, in addition, we are under a weather alert. Those who are forced to circulate, we ask them to do so with the greatest of precautions since there are no lights or traffic lights,” said Rodrigo. Goncalvez, head of Civil Defense.

Reports from tourists and authorities from other districts indicated that the power cut also affected the towns of Pinamar, Villa Gesell and Partido de la Costa.
