The Cuban government criticized the United States over NATO’s expansion towards Russian borders and called for a diplomatic solution to preserve international peace.
The determination of the United States to impose the gradual expansion of NATO towards the borders of the Russian Federation constitutes a threat to the national security of this country as well as to regional and international peace, according to a statement from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The statement was issued on the sidelines of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions from Ukraine and following his order to send peacekeeping troops to their lands.
“The U.S. government has been threatening Russia for weeks and manipulating the international community regarding the dangers of an imminent full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It has provided weapons and military technology, deployed forces to several countries in the region, imposed unilateral and unfair sanctions and threatened further retaliatory actions, then launched, in parallel, a propaganda campaign once morest Russia,” the statement said.
Yesterday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also announced his support for Moscow in its crisis with Kiev.
