Juventus Turin drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 at Villarreal on Tuesday evening.

A nasty foul by Juve midfield director Adrien Rabiot caused a stir.

Blue expert Marcel Reif even describes it as “attempted manslaughter”.
Getting a 1-1 draw at YB-Schreck Villarreal is certainly not a shame, but Juventus Turin tried in the final stages of the Champions League round of 16 first leg to force victory with all means. Some Turiners went overboard and attacked the Villarreal players with overly hard tackles.
Just a minute following a rude attack from Arthur, Juve’s midfield director Adrien Rabiot ruthlessly knocked opponent Samu Chukwueze off his feet. Referee Daniel Siebert only drew a yellow card for this bad kick, and the VAR did not rate the foul as red-worthy either.
“Then I’ll end up in jail for three months”
Something that caused a great deal of incomprehension in the Volketswil television studio. “If I do that with you in the Bahnhofstrasse, I’ll end up in jail for three months,” commented expert legend Marcel Reif on the TV channel blue and really got into a rage when evaluating the scene. It was “attempted manslaughter”, according to the Zurich resident, and encountered little opposition from the group around ex-Croatia star Mladen Petric.
At least it’s positive that Chukwueze didn’t appear to have been injured in Rabiot’s attack. The Nigerian was allowed to play on following the scene and was only substituted in added time, as Villarreal manager Unai Emery may have wanted to take time off the clock. At Juve, on the other hand, Zakaria’s rival Weston McKennie only left the field with the help of coaches following he was injured in a tough duel with Pervis Estupinan.
