Doping training as a Spanish figure skater Barque for the Beijing Winter Olympics

[아이뉴스24 류한준 기자] The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics started on the 4th and ended on the 20th. However, players related to banned substances continue to emerge.

The International Testing Agency (ITA), which was in charge of doping testing on behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the Beijing Winter Olympics, announced on the 23rd that female figure skater Laura Barquero (Spain) tested positive for doping.

The ITA explained that the banned substance, Clostebol, was found in the doping sample submitted by Barquero. Clostable is known as a substance that has a similar effect to the male hormone testosterone and helps muscle development.

Barquero, along with Marco Sandron, competed in the figure skating pair event and placed 11th. Barquero tested positive for doping at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

It is the fourth time that a person tested positive for doping at the Beijing Olympics. Prior to Barquero, alpine skiers Hossein Sabeh Semsaki (Iran), Valentina Kaminska (Ukraine) and Lydia Hunko (Ukraine) were tested for banned substances in bobsled.

Here, the female figure skater Camilla Balieva (Russia) was caught up in a controversy because a sample submitted before the competition contained banned substances. The ITA added that “Barquero will be referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) in accordance with the IOC Anti-Doping Rules.”
