An American and his Volvo have been inseparable since 1991. The manufacturer decided to mark the occasion by offering him a new vehicle.
The world has changed considerably since 1991. But if there is one thing that has stood the test of time, it is Jim O’Shea’s car. This American living in Missouri has indeed driven for thirty years with the same vehicle. Last November, the man even crossed the symbolic bar of one million miles (1.6 million kilometers) traveled at the wheel of his faithful Volvo 740 GLE. A real pride for the motorist, who had set himself this somewhat crazy goal.
Jim says that at the time, his uncle was working at a dealership of a competing brand. “When I drove my car home, my dad didn’t speak to me for a while. And I said to him: I guarantee you that I will drive a million miles with this car! And I did it,” he explained to Fox 2 in November. When he passed this symbolic milestone on the road to work, Jim might not help but think of his late father: “As he is no longer with us, I might not shut him up”, he regrets.
“Anyone want to buy it?”
In thirty years, the American has never been involved in the slightest accident. “My wife bumped into me three times in our driveway,” said the motorist, smiling. His mission accomplished, Jim resolved to part with his trusty automobile: “Anyone want to buy it? It’s a 1991 car with a mile on the clock. That’s what the counter indicates,” he laughed.
The American finally heard from the dealer who had sold him his vehicle in 1991, says Fox Business. To reward Jim, the general manager of West County Volvo gave him a brand new car. Ironically, it was the same person who sold him the famous car more than thirty years ago. Jim therefore left behind the wheel of an S-60 sedan. However, he is not really the owner of the vehicle, since it is a long-term rental.
