The Central African Republic opened an investigation on Tuesday following the arrest the day before of four soldiers from the corps of the Foreign Legion of the French army operating under the banner of the UN, announced the public prosecutor in Bangui.
The four armed men were escorting a French general from the UN peacekeeping force (Minusca) to the airport, the French army and the UN assured on Monday. They had been accused on social networks of wanting to “assassinate” the Central African president, which Paris and the UN have denied. “The prosecution has decided to open a regular investigation to shed light on the facts,” said prosecutor Laurent Lengande on state radio.
