The mayor of Ganshoren Pierre Kompany announced to our colleagues in Le Soir that he will resign this Wednesday. First mayor of sub-Saharan origin, the father of the famous Anderlecht footballer thus respects the pre-electoral commitment sealed with his running mate Jean-Paul Van Laethem (CDH), who will put on the mayoral sash for the end of the legislature.
Remember that in Brussels the resignation and replacement are not effective immediately. The Brussels framework indeed provides for a long procedure of verification of credentials before the enthronement of the replacement.
The future ex-mayor told our colleagues in Le Soir that Belgium will still know “many other black mayors”. After his resignation from the Ganshore local executive, Pierre Kompany retains his mandate as a regional deputy in the Brussels Parliament.
