A hundred companies from 13 countries are probing their installation in Asturias

On the radar of the Institute for Economic Development of the Principality of Asturias (Idepa) there are 106 companies from 13 countries with an interest in starting up projects in the region. So far, the Investment Attraction Strategy launched by the Government of the Principality in 2020 has helped attract six companies with a joint investment of 220.7 million and the creation of 209 jobs.

In addition to Idepa, the Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés Chambers of Commerce and the Commitment Asturias XXI and Asturias Power associations are part of the Investment Attraction Strategy promotion committee. This network has detected 106 investment opportunities in the region. They are companies and entrepreneurs with projects in different stages of maturation. There are initiatives originating in several Spanish autonomous communities and in foreign countries: Germany, Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, Norway and the United Kingdom. As for the project sectors, the most prominent are agriculture, industry, advanced services and industrial support.

For now, the Investment Attraction Strategy launched by the Government of the Principality in 2020 has made it possible for six companies to land in Asturias. The last to do so, last week, was the Colombian airline services company Indaer, which has set up its headquarters for Europe and the Middle East in the Asturias Technology Park. Previously, the data processing technology companies Team EQ, Bedrock Intelligence and Mind Facilities Management, which are already operating from Gijón, had landed in Asturias from Madrid and Barcelona. The other two projects will be located in the port of El Musel, also Gijón. They are the biofuel plant from solid waste promoted by the Preco group and the Sea Eight company’s aquaculture center for sole farming.

Investment and employment

The Director of Industry, Employment and Economic Promotion of the Principality, Enrique Fernández, pointed out that the six investments captured within the Investment Attraction Strategy represent an injection of 220.7 million euros and the creation of 209 jobs. “What is happening is not the result of chance; there is a lot of prospecting, analysis and evaluation of potential investors”, said Enrique Fernández last Thursday during the event to present the implementation of Indaer in Asturias. Fernández stressed that the acquisition of these companies is added to the investments of Amazon or the one announced by ArcelorMittal.
