Samsung has just announced its new Galaxy S22 from 859 euros and up to 1,259 euros, but why choose one of them when the S21 Ultra, aka the best smartphone of the last year according to us, which does not made no concessions when it was released, costs less right now?
Samsung recently unveiled its Galaxy S22, S22 Plus et S22 Ultra. All three smartphones are currently available for pre-order, but the latter we tested did not convince us that much, in particular because of numerous bugs, an autonomy below last year and a perfectible portrait mode. If you really want a premium, large-format phone, then we can only recommend the excellent S21 Ultra, which currently benefits from more than 400 euros reduction.
The key points of the S21 Ultra
- The large 120Hz Quad HD curved AMOLED display
- The power of the Snapdragon 888 + 12GB RAM combo
- An excellent camera (108 megapixels, x100 zoom, etc.)
Instead of 1,259 euros at launch, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is now available on sale at 839.47 euros on Rakuten using promo code SUP12400. This is the US version with the Snapdragon 888 instead of Exynos 2100.
If the offer mentioned in this article is no longer available following that, please take a look below to find other offers on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The table updates automatically.
The S21 Ultra with the power of Qualcomm
As said before, this deal of Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra concerns the version integrating the Snapdragon 888 from Qualcomm. Still with 12 GB of RAM in addition, this configuration shows better performance in the various benchmarks, even if it is indicated that the fight is close with the Exynos 2100. In any case and at the time of writing these lines, the user experience is much more qualitative than on the new Galaxy S22 Ultra, where the latter displays many bugs on the interface as well as in game, especially on Fortnite with unloaded textures. An update might surely change things in the future, but for the moment this is not the case.
Samsung’s new ultra-premium smartphone is even less durable than the S21 Ultra despite a 5,000 mAh battery and a 4-nanometer SoC. To corroborate all this, we let you judge for yourself with these figures obtained on our personalized ViSer test which simulates active use by alternating a plethora of applications of all kinds. The S21 Ultra had resisted for 16 hours and 20 minutes while the S22 Ultra struggled to exceed 13 hours. On the other hand, if the latter switches to a more efficient 45 W recharge, last year’s model remains confined to a “fast” charge of 25 W, both wired and wireless.
Still a great camera
The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, is better in photos than its predecessor, but last year’s S21 Ultra is still an excellent photophone. The protruding rear photo module offers the following composition: a 108 megapixel main sensor, a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle, a 10 megapixel x3 telephoto lens, another telephoto lens, this time x10, still 10 megapixels and a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. The result is there, where Samsung now manages to offer a digital zoom up to x100 much less anecdotal than on the S20 Ultra and able to take beautiful pictures of the Moon. The possibilities are endless and the quality is simply amazing, whether it’s day or night.
To finish on a note just as premium as the previously mentioned elements, the design of the smartphone is very successful. Its format is quite imposing with a diagonal of 6.8 inches, but the quality of the finishes on the contours of the smartphone makes it very pleasant in the hand. The screen is also not flat and proposes to differentiate itself from other S21 by curving its edges on the sides. That being said, this touch screen is excellent and is quite simply one of the best on the market, since AMOLED with a Quad HD definition at 3,200 x 1,440 pixels and an adaptive refresh rate at 120 Hz. The maximum brightness is also very high to enjoy content in any situation.
The S Pen is not included
If the new Galaxy S22 Ultra directly embeds a storage port for the Samsung stylus, this S21 Ultra only offers compatibility with the famous S Pen. You will therefore have to buy it separately if you want to take advantage of the various features it offers, since it is not actually included in the box.
