Both XFL and NFL A joint statement was issued on Monday with plans to expand the game of soccer and “create greater opportunities for player development” on and off the field.
In the statement, the leagues said health and safety will be a “focus area” in both learning and innovation. The XFL will work with the NFL on physical and mental fitness programs for potential players and will also study playing surfaces and equipment, as well as insights into game trends and data.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with the NFL in these important areas,” said Danny Garcia, co-owner and president of the XFL. “We deliver a progressive and forward-thinking XFL when it comes to innovation, leveraging the latest technologies to enhance the multiplayer experience. We have an open scope for innovative rules to improve access within the game. Sharing ideas and practices between the XFL and the NFL will do a lot of good things for the game of football and support the player ecosystem as a whole.”
Other ideas may include developing international football, exploring, managing and testing different rules of the game to protect players and improve the game in general, while including technology to improve management.

“XFL has shown us that innovation is one of its fundamental principles. We hope this relationship will support further development and improvements in football at all levels,” said Troy Vincent, executive vice president of football operations for the NFL.
XFL intends to return in February 2023.
