The wind was announced, it was there. This Monday, February 21, the Alpes-Maritimes were swept by strong gusts of wind throughout the day. If the situation was calm at the end of the day, vigilance is still required. We take stock.
Gusts over 100 km/h
113 km/h at Le Mas, 111 km/h at Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, 103 km/h at Mandelieu-la-Napoule, 102 km/h at Levens, 101 km/h at Valbonne Sophia Antipolis or even 92 km/h h in Antibes. The wind blew hard several times in the Alpes-Maritimes.
Direct consequence of these gusts, the city of Nice announced at midday the closure of all parks and gardens of the city, but also of the green corridor and the Phœnix park.
In Antibes, the coastal path to Cap d’Antibes has been closed. Just like the parks and gardens of the town.
Damaged cars and trees on the roads
Weakened by the strong gusts, a tree fell on the Leclerc service station, avenue Auguste-Vérola in Nice. At least five cars were damaged in the blaze. The metal structure of the station was also damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Also in Nice, the firefighters intervened on Avenue Verdun, near Place de la Masséna, to remove a metal plate that threatened to fall from an apartment building.
In Vallauris, on this day of return, the worst was avoided. Cladding of the Pablo-Picasso college located in the city center did not resist the wind.
In Tignet, on the Var border, where the wind also blew hard (a gust of 140km/h was recorded in Saint-Raphaël), a tree also fell on the track.
The department remains under yellow vigilance
