Windows 11, Microsoft improves gaming performance

Windows 11 is a versatile operating system. It meets many needs. Its environment allows you to work, create and have fun. Gaming is one of its big arguments. This explains its popularity with the Steam community.

It is therefore not surprising that Microsoft is working on improvements in this area. The latest Preview offered as part of the Windows Insider program brings an important step forward.

Windows 11 build 22557 introduces a function called “Optimizations”. As its name suggests, its purpose is to improve gaming performance. However, this is for games in windowed mode.

Windows 11 and Optimizations for Gaming

According to Redmond the user should observe a significant increase in performance including improved latency.

Microsoft adds

“This release introduces a feature called Optimizations for Windowed Games. It’s designed to dramatically improve latency and unlock other exciting gaming features including Auto HDR and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

Latency improvements can benefit all gamers, from improving your input lag to creating a competitive edge in your gaming experience.

Go to System > Display > Graphics > Change default graphics settings to enable the feature. Note that this feature may already be enabled by default and is also required to use other graphics features such as Auto HDR.”

For the moment Optimizations is only offered as part of the Windows Insiders program and more specifically to PCs registered on the DEV channel. If everything goes smoothly, it should find its way to the general public this year.

Microsoft recently explained that improvements for Windows 11 will be released at a faster pace. There will be no need to wait for a feature update that is scheduled to be released once a year. As a result, advances here and there can be deployed in a simpler way through the Windows Update service via classic so-called quality updates.
