Environmental activist Saeed Al-Suhaimi warned of the dangers and damages of the perseops tree, which is sweeping the environment of the Kingdom, and has caused the complete disappearance of local trees from the valleys.
The environmental activist explained through the “Ya Hala” program on the “Rotana Khaleejia” channel, that there are studies conducted around the world regarding these trees, as they were classified as harmful and exotic trees, noting that they were initially introduced to the Kingdom in good faith to combat desertification, and that the habitat of The tree is native to South America.
And he indicated that the “Perseops” tree has proven harmful in the Kingdom following it spread widely and lost control of it, noting that it eliminates other local trees such as “Sidr” and “Acacia”, and there are valleys from which local trees have completely disappeared because of them.
He pointed out that the depth of the roots of the “perseopus” tree is very strong and extends up to 60 meters, which leads to drying out of the wells in the areas where it is located, and its fruits cause the livestock to emaciate and then die.
He added that a campaign should be conducted to raise awareness of the damages of the “perseops” tree and to prevent its import, in addition to replanting local trees instead to properly treat and protect the vegetation cover.
