The Venezuelan opposition led by Juan Guaido He returned to the streets this Saturday with “municipal meetings.” The activities were held in the country’s states to promote the holding of “free, fair and verifiable presidential and parliamentary elections.”
This is the second consecutive weekend in which the opposition has made these calls, which had not been resumed since March 2020.
On February 12, Guaidó gathered some 300 people in Plaza Bolívar de Chacao. From the municipality he proposed to renew the leadership of the anti-Chavistas.
The “municipal meetings,” as this Saturday’s assemblies were called, were held in at least 42 municipalities in all the states of the Caribbean country, as Delsa Solórzano informed EFE. The opposition leader led one of the meetings in eastern Caracas, accompanied by some 50 people.
“We have held assemblies like this, work meetings, in at least 42 municipalities in the country, throughout Venezuela there have been spaces like this for discussion, debate, organization, struggle, with the aim that we can tell the country: one, that we are alive and that is fundamental, two that we are organizing ourselves to achieve freedom,” said the former parliamentarian.
The return of the opposition to the streets
During the meeting in Caracas, Solórzano pointed out the importance of “going out” in the search for freedom. He also the need to fight for an electoral process with guarantees so that “every vote really counts.”
“Unity, organization and mobilization. These three fundamental keys are to achieve freedom,” said the former deputy, referring to the need to “organize the vast majority” that, she assured, represent those who oppose the government of Nicolás Maduro.
Earlier, the opposition leader Juan Guaidó participated in one of these meetings in the central state of Vargas, from where he assured that the government of Nicolás Maduro “has an expiration date.”
“Do not give up because the dictatorship has an expiration date. I give the country and the entire world the absolute certainty that we will do what we know how to do well for this electoral cycle because not only are the presidential ones, but also the parliamentary ones owe us. 2022 is a year of demand, of struggle », said the former parliamentarian, according to a press release released by his team.
On the day, he asked citizens for “unity and incorporation” from all sectors in the demand for a date for presidential elections in Venezuela “as soon as possible” and assured that the country “cannot wait any longer.”
