160 women competed – but only one of them got the title in the end. The new “Miss Germany” wants to use her reach to make topics like social justice “sexier”.

The social entrepreneur and actress Domitila Barros from Berlin is the new “Miss Germany”.

The 37-year-old grew up in a favela in Brazil and worked in a street children’s project run by her parents. Issues such as social justice and the environment are close to her heart, she said at the election in Europa-Park in Rust, Baden. «We all live on Mother Earth. And she needs us very much at the moment. »

She wants to make these topics “cooler, maybe even a little sexier,” said Barros. She mainly uses social media for this. “The people I want to reach don’t read all the newspaper articles – but they scroll,” she said. After the freestyle she collapsed on the stage, the ten other candidates rushed to her.

The 2021/22 season started with a Germany-wide top 160 – and unlike before, independent of the federal states. Women between the ages of 18 and 39 who had a “mission” might apply. A jury of celebrities and the audience during an online broadcast voted on the best of the eleven finalists.
