“It’s not the defeat the problem, it’s the way”: Ancelotti lost his credit in Paris

Coming out of a poor performance displayed at the Parc des Princes in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, Real Madrid had to react. And, the least we can say is that the Spanish club fell short once morest a well-established Alavés team. Long without ideas and hampered by technical waste, the Merengue first had all the trouble in the world to get around the opposing defense. They generally delivered a first period in line with previous outings, that is to say dull and very little reassuring. Fortunately for Real, there was a second act to play.

Asensio woke Real

Because, following the break, the magic Madrid trio stepped on the accelerator. The spark was ignited by Marco Asensio, once once more author of a sublime strike from the left which ended its race in the skylight of Alavés (1-0, 63rd). This goal came to reward the much more brilliant performance of Real, also materialized by a double opportunity (55th). This opening of the score especially freed the attacking friends of the Spaniard. If Karim Benzema found the post (77th), Vinicius made the break by concluding a sublime action, brought by a delicious one-two in the area between Benzema and Asensio (2-0, 80th). Decisive passer, the French still added a goal to his counter by transforming a penalty at the end of the game (90th + 1).

Not everything was perfect for Real Madrid in this meeting which, at least, ended in a positive result. The Merengue remained only on a victory in five matches, all competitions combined. By forgetting this very hesitant first act, we can recognize that Real have done the job and should start once more. It will obviously be necessary to confirm in the days to come, knowing that the future crucial deadline will be the return match once morest PSG, played at the Santiago Bernabéu. With an attacking trio at this level, Carlo Ancelotti has reason to believe in the feat.
