“Ukraine received security guarantees when it renounced its nuclear weapons, the third largest in the world. We have no weapons. No security. (…) But we have the right to to demand an end to the policy of appeasement and to ask for guarantees of security and peace,” he said. Ukraine is “the shield of Europe” once morest the Russian army, added Volodymyr Zelensky in Munich, calling on Westerners to increase their aid.
“We appreciate any help, but everyone must understand: these are not charitable contributions that Ukraine should ask for (…) It is your contribution to the security of Europe and the world. Where the Ukraine has been the shield for eight years,” he said.
Ukraine also demands a “clear” timetable for its NATO membership.
Meeting with Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The European Union (EU) also announced on Saturday that it was coordinating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, contributing to the delivery by air of medical supplies and protective equipment requested by Kiev.
This aid, provided by member states, “aims to support Ukraine’s efforts to prepare for all possible scenarios,” the European Commission said in a statement.
The aid includes disposable medical masks, sterile gloves, electric generators, antibiotics and disinfectants provided by Slovenia, Ireland, Romania and Austria.
