Rangnick: Withdrawing the captaincy from Maguire and giving it to Ronaldo? Bullshit!

Manchester United coach Ralph Rangnick has denied reports that he wants to change the captain to Cristiano Ronaldo instead of Harry Maguire.

In the past hours, English newspapers reported that the Manchester United dressing room was split due to Ronaldo’s desire to lead the team.

It was said that Rangnick spoke with Maguire and Ronaldo to withdraw the badge from the first, but the England international refused.

The German responded to this at the press conference for the Leeds United match, saying, “I must say at the outset that this is complete nonsense.”

Maguire responds decisively to the badge crisis with Ronaldo

He added, “I’ve never spoken to any player regarding a possible change of leadership, Harry is well aware of that, as are Ronaldo and all the players.”

“I’m the one who decides who the captain is, so there’s no reason to talk to someone else regarding that, Harry is our captain and he’s going to be like that until the end of the season.”

“I don’t listen to the noise much, my full focus is on preparing the team for each match, the atmosphere in the locker room is now much better than two weeks ago.”

Manchester United is fourth in the English Premier League, and the atmosphere calmed down a lot following beating Brighton with two clean goals last Tuesday.

Ronaldo returned to scoring following an absence in the first two months of 2022, and the general condition of the team seemed better with the approach of the Atletico Madrid match in the Champions League.
