But this Thursday there is another worrying fact, and that is that the patients older than 70 years in these units they have tripled in the last 24 days. If on January 24 there were 117 internees of the aforementioned age range in the ICU, today the figure is 366.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health, there are currently 267 people between 60 and 69 years old in ICUs; and followed by patients between 50 and 59 with 127.

On the other hand, the number of patients in the integrated health system (basic beds, medium beds, ICU and ICU) reached 5,010. The highest figure since July 17, 2021 (5,052), which is equivalent to seven months. What’s more, this value tripled in 24 days, since on January 24 there were 1,521.

Four regions set a record for infections

The rise in infections as a result of the Omicron variant is now affecting the central-southern area of ​​the country.

An example of this is that four regions of said sector registered new records this Thursday for those infected throughout the pandemic.

This is how Maule (3,431), Biobío (4,512), La Araucanía (3,003) and Los Lagos (2,439) had new maximums of people with coronavirus, according to information from the health authorities.

In addition, the O’Higgins Region reported a record of active cases, reaching 6,165 people who currently have the disease in that area.
