LG Energy Solution acquired a 100% stake in NEC Energy Solution from its parent company, NEC Corporation of Japan.
NEC Energy Solution has carried out more than 140 global ESS projects.
As of 2020, annual sales reached KRW 240 billion, an average annual growth rate of 60% for three years.
The amount of LG Energy Solution’s acquisition of NEC Energy Solution was not disclosed.
This acquisition is a preparation for LG Energy Solutions to enter the US ESS market.
ESS refers to a device that can store renewable energy power and release power when it is needed.
Recently, the importance of ESS, which stores energy, has been highlighted worldwide.
Wood McKinsey, an energy research institute, has more than tripled the size of the US ESS market from US$5.5 billion last year.
LG Energy Solution Vertech, a newly established corporation, is in charge of ESS business planning, design, installation, maintenance, and repair.
LG Energy Solution explained, “According to the recent growth of the global ESS market, customers are demanding battery makers to play an SI role such as quality control.”
