Fabien Roussel collected 529 sponsorships and Jean Lassalle 503, according to data published by the Constitutional Council on its website. “France is standing up thanks to its elected officials who are struggling for the common interest”greeted the candidate of the French Communist Party (PCF) in a video posted on his Twitter account where he also thanks his supporters.

The deputy of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, for his part, should be able to participate in his second presidential election. In 2017, he had obtained 435,365 votes, or 1.21% of the votes cast, and had not given voting instructions for the second round.

A total of 8,669 sponsorships were filed with the Constitutional Council. In addition to the two candidates mentioned, Valérie Pécresse, candidate for the Republicans, now has 1,945 sponsorships, ahead of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, who is not yet a candidate (1,345 sponsorships). In third position, Anne Hidalgo, candidate of the Socialist Party, collected 1,074 sponsorships.

Finally, several candidates have not yet obtained the minimum of 500 referrals. Yannick Jadot, candidate of Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, should soon achieve this without difficulty with already 490 sponsorships. The situation is more delicate, as March 4 approaches, for Jean-Luc Mélenchon (La France insoumise, 370 sponsorships), Marine Le Pen (National Rally, 366 sponsorships) and Eric Zemmour, (Reconquest!, 291 sponsorships).

The Constitutional Council will verify, between March 4 and 7, that the sponsorships received meet two criteria: they must come from at least thirty departments and a department must not exceed 10% of the signatures received for the application to be considered valid. . The President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, will announce the final list of candidates on Monday March 7, regarding a month before the first round, on April 10.
