investigation into suspicion of ill-treatment in a barracks

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Bad treatment was allegedly inflicted on soldiers in a barracks in Liestal (BL), according to the German-speaking media. The commander of the place d’armes ordered a disciplinary investigation.

A video published Thursday on the portals of Blick and 20Minuten shows two men crawling in camouflage uniforms. A third individual hits them on the helmet with a stick while shouting at them. According to the sources quoted by the two media, the facts would have occurred in mid-January.

The army became aware of these videos through the media. Such an attitude does not correspond to the values of the army, its spokesman Stefan Hofer told Keystone-ATS. It will neither be accepted nor tolerated. Depending on the results of the investigation ordered by the commander of the barracks, military justice will be seized, assured Mr. Hofer.
