Strong storm expected this Friday, the red alert envisaged

The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) warns of the passage of a strong storm on Friday between 2 p.m.-3 p.m. and 6 p.m.-7 p.m. The wind is expected to blow strongest in Flanders, where gusts of up to 120 to 150 km / h are expected at the coast. The IRM predicts a strong storm with southwest winds (10 Beaufort) and possibly a very strong storm (11 Beaufort) very temporary and local along the North Sea on Friday followingnoon. At this stage, it is not excluded that West Flanders and the coastal region will come under red vigilance, the meteorological institute said in a press release on Thursday.

The IRM also predicts violent gusts of up to 100 to 140 km/h in West Flanders and 100 to 130 km/h in East Flanders and in the province of Antwerp. Inland, the wind will also blow hard. In Hainaut, the gusts can reach a speed of 90 to 120 km / h and 80 to 120 km / h everywhere else.

“The damage may be extensive and significant in certain regions”, warns the MRI.
