“A democratic scandal”, “I don’t understand your show”: the absence of Alexander De Croo arouses great tension in the Chamber

The absence of the Prime Minister in the Chamber this Thursday, February 17 has made the ranks of the assembly cringe. The N-VA deputies expressed their dissatisfaction at the opening of the plenary session. “It’s a democratic scandal,” said Peter De Roover (N-VA). The group leader of the Flemish nationalists thus pointed to the importance of the debates which were being held this Thursday on theemployment agreement. This is why he regretted that Alexander De Croo was not present, due to his participation in the opening ceremony of the EU summit with African countries. “It’s in Brussels, he might have come to discuss this important point!”, Added Mr. De Roover, who accused the Flemish liberal of fleeing the debates.

“I am amazed by what I hear,” responded MR group leader Benoît Piedboeuf.

Same story from the side of the CD&V, which underlined that a conference had taken place and that the organization of the session had not posed any problem. “No Flemish nationalist opposed”, was surprised Servais Verherstraeten. “So I don’t understand the show you’re doing right now.”
