The CD Projekt title is getting a second life on Xbox Series and Playstation 5.
Released in November 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 had a rather tumultuous launch. Between the old-gen versions to pick up and bugs do you want some, the Polish studio was quickly disillusioned following having praised its blockbuster so much. The case has gone so far that Sony has long removed the title from the PS Store and CD Projekt offered the refund to dissatisfied customers.
Very quickly, eyes then turned to the next-gen update, which the developers promised more stable, prettier and more successful. A 1.5 patch which it will still be made to wait more than a year, since the developers only made it available this week, with many new features on next-gen and old-gen. In a year of development, have the CD Projekt teams managed to transform their title on PS5 and Xbox Series? We tell you everything!
Fixed many bugs
One of the studio’s first promises with this next-gen version was that the many bugs found in the PS4 and Xbox One versions would be fixed. Since its release, the title has already hosted a good number of updates improving the title and correcting the hundreds of bugs present.
Today, the title seems indeed more successful than ever, with almost flawless next-gen versions. The framerate drops are for example much less important and numerous, while the few small defects have been corrected over the updates. Cyberpunk 2077 version 2022 thus comes out rich with these numerous updates.
More beautiful … and more stable
However, we will not deprive Cyberpunk 2077 of offering very nice graphics, whether on PC, PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. Without being a model technically speaking, the title at least had the gift of being neat on this point. With the next-gen update, the developers are taking the fold from other studios by offering two display modes on PS5 and Series.
The Performance mode should, for example, correct the lack of stability that might sometimes be blamed on the title, by ensuring that it constantly runs at 60 FPS (with rare and slight drops) in 4K. On the other hand, if it’s the beauty of the game that matters most to you, then Cyberpunk 2077 offers a Ray-Tracing mode, running the game at 30 FPS but offering beautiful reflections in glass and puddles and many more beautiful shadows. We warn you, once you have played at 60 FPS, it is very difficult to return to a more standard display of 30 FPS.
For its part, the Series S being unable to display 4K and ray-tracing, it will be necessary to be satisfied with a (too?) weak Performance mode at 30 FPS in 1440p.
Gameplay changes?
Unexpectedly, CD Projekt took the opportunity to improve many elements of its title to improve the gaming experience. We thus learn that, on PS5, the adaptive triggers of the DualSense are taken into account. account, while the speaker of the controller can broadcast the thoughts and sound effects present in the head of V. Little icing on the cake: 3D audio is supported (it was already the case on Xbox Series).
The interface has also been improved, with a much more sober and readable map, but also filters now present so as not to have the slew of icons present on the Night City holographic map. Finally, it is now possible to modify the appearance of V just by looking at the mirror of the hideout. A seemingly trivial element, but oh so important for the players.
Speaking of hiding, it will now be possible to buy an apartment in the four corners of Night City. Previously, players had to cross the whole city to get supplies or rest in his hideout. Now, and the way of a GTA Online, the player can buy the apartment of his dreams with a view of the skyscrapers of Night City.
Vehicle driving has also been reviewed, which clearly did not meet with unanimous approval. Driving is now more comfortable, with additions making the vehicles less “slippery”: ABS, clutch simulation, improved gearbox, steering assistance… The motorcycles have also been adjusted and are now more stable.
A more lively Night City
Finally, one of the main complaints made regarding the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 concerned its open-world which might seem empty. It is true that at times, the streets of the futuristic megalopolis seemed very empty on consoles where the PC version was more complete. With this 1.5 update, the developers promise a richer city teeming with people like an anthill.
For their part, NPCs and passers-by react much better to V’s actions. As soon as he commits a somewhat suspicious action, they react much faster and more adequately to what he does. Point your gun at an NPC and some will run away while others will draw their guns to defend themselves.
Finally, note that this next-gen update is completely free for owners of the game on PS4 and Xbox One.
