a flagship camera for less than 400 euros

The Realme 9 Pro+, 9 Pro and 9i will be available from February 23 in France. The range stretches from 219 to 429 euros with a real move upmarket on the photo and screen part in particular.

After a rather successful 8 series (two 8/10s at Frandroid with the really 8 and 8 Pro), Realme continues its momentum with a new series logically called Realme 9. The brand drops the basic model to offer a Realme 9i, a Realme 9 Pro and a little novelty, a Realme 9 Pro +.

First observation: only the Realme 9 Pro + offers an Oled screen this time, clocked at 90 Hz in 6.4 inches. However, it was one of the highlights of the range with the Realme 8 and 8 Pro, which both offered Oled at a low price. As elsewhere, we observe that the more accessible models of Realme fall back on LCD, however offering a refresh rate of 120 Hz on the Realme 9 Pro.

Focus on the Realme 9 Pro+

It is elsewhere that the Realme 9 Pro+ will try to stand out and in particular in photography. The brand puts a lot of emphasis on this dimension in the phone, in particular thanks to its main sensor, a Sony IMX 766 of 50 megapixels (f / 1.8, 24 mm), which rather equips flagships usually. This is also helped by an optical and software stabilization system. At its side, you can enjoy an ultra-wide angle (f / 2.2, 15 mm) and a macro (f / 2.4, 22 mm) whose definition is unknown.

Beyond hardware improvements, Realme claims to have made a lot of progress in software optimization. The 9 Pro+, for example, embeds their third generation of AI noise reduction engine. This should reduce noise in night shots and allow colors to pop better. By day, some improvements are present, such as several long exposure modes, “90’s pop” filters to appeal to a younger audience and the possibility of zooming into the image while maintaining a suitable level of quality, according to Realme.

Another little touch of originality that will certainly seduce: the Realme 9 Pro+ will be a chameleon phone. Clearly, it can go from blue to gold if it is lit by the sun or not. The back is glass, but it doesn’t have Gorilla Glass protection. The absence of IP certification for waterproofing is also worth noting. Still on the design, this is the thinnest Realme ever offered, since it is 7.99 mm thick (hello marketing) once morest 8.1 on the Realme 8, and 8.7 on the Realme 7 for example.

For the rest, the technical sheet can be quite attractive with a MediaTek Dimensity 920 5G SoC, helped by a vapor chamber, a 4500 mAh battery, a 60W charge, 8 GB of RAM, to which are added 5 GB of virtual RAM which we can borrow from storage, Dual SIM support and Android 12 (Realme UI 3.0) right out of the box. The smartphone will benefit from two years of major updates, which should take it up to Android 14. Last interesting point: the Realme 9 Pro+ integrates the sacrosanct 3.5mm jack, which will appeal to enthusiasts and lovers of the genre, if the sound of the two stereo speakers does not suit them. The fingerprint sensor is located under the screen and can measure heart rate.

The Realme 9 Pro and Realme 9i

The Realme 9 Pro will therefore offer a brighter screen than the Pro + model, with a display rate of 120 Hz. The counterpart is however immediate: it is an LCD panel. The 9 Pro swaps the Snapdragon 720G of the 8 Pro for a 695G 5G engraved in 6 nm, supposed to be 15% faster on the CPU part and 30% more lively on the GPU. With its X51 modem, it should be able to reach 2.3 Gb / s in download, or regarding 287.5 MB / s. It also offers 5 GB of additional virtual RAM, integrates the different photo modes, as well as Realme UI 3.0.

It is also especially on the photo side where the descent in range should be felt. If you do not attach extreme importance to this segment, then the Realme 9 Pro might be more worthwhile. It incorporates a 64 megapixel sensor of lesser quality (without more precision). The battery gains a bit in thickness with 5000 mAh, but drops to a lesser load of 33 W.

The Realme 9i meanwhile is quite mysterious for the time being. We only know that it will be equipped with a Snapdragon 680, a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 5000 mAh battery and 33W charging. Given its price, it would replace the old Realme 8 in this new range.
