Europe remained a major importer of US liquefied natural gas in February and is expected to remain the largest destination for US shipments for a third month in a row, ship-tracking data showed on Tuesday.
The data indicated that regarding three-quarters of US LNG shipments went to Europe in January, as a sharp increase in demand drove up prices and exports. Total US liquefied gas exports last month amounted to 7.3 million tons.
Preliminary data from Kepler showed that US exports to Europe this month may be close to the record level set in January.
Since the beginning of this month, the United States has exported 3.56 million tons of LNG, which is comparable to the volume of exports in mid-December, which was the second-highest level on record, according to Refinitiv data.
Refinitiv data showed that at least half of US LNG shipments this month went to Europe as companies search for new supplies. Analysts said that fears of an interruption of Russian gas, which accounts for regarding 35 percent of European consumption, contributed to the increase in exports.
