Roger Lambrecht died Tuesday at the age of 90. The information was confirmed by KSC Lokeren-Thames, the club’s new name since the bankruptcy of Sporting Lokeren in 2020.
Lambrecht was the president of Sporting Lokeren for 25 years. The tire magnate took office in 1994. He succeeded Gaston Keppens. The main feats of arms under his ‘reign’ were the victories in the Belgian Cup in 2012 and 2014.
The end of his presidency was much less auspicious, since in 2019, when he left the club to leave it in the hands of Louis de Vries, Sporting Lokeren had just been demoted to D1B. A year later, the club was officially deregistered due to bankruptcy.
